Kim Hye Jung (b. 1988, Daegu) is a painter based in Seoul. Her work proceeds by subtraction: thin grounds are built up over weeks, then scraped, sanded, and withheld until only the interval between two tones remains.
She studied painting at Seoul National University and the Städelschule, Frankfurt. Recent solo exhibitions include Slow Grey, Kukje Gallery, Seoul (2026) and Interval, Wien Lukatsch, Berlin (2024).

About
Born and raised in South Korea (1992), Kim Hye Jung received a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Dankook University in Cheonan, South Korea, in 2016. She currently lives in Copenhagen.
I believe that by painting the landscapes I have dwelled in, I can discover myself within them. Every painting is created on Hanji, traditional Korean paper made from the inner bark of paper mulberry.
Hanji is not merely a background, but a companion I respect, understand, and share sensibilities with. As I touch it, follow its grain, and observe the flow of colour as it spreads, I do not simply cast out my own story. Together with Hanji, I bring deeper sensations into the visual realm.
